The boat Phelena Miner moves under a lift bridge in the town of Mechanicville at the Champlain Canal.

The laborers constructing the Erie Canal around 1820 were the first folks to settle in the area that was to become Medina.

The aqueduct at Medina was designed to carry the canal over Oak Orchard Creek. The aqueduct can be seen in the other image of Medina on page 63. In this image, it is located on the inside of the bend at the point were the Erie Canal begins to disappear from the picture plan. A cascade of water marks its location.
